Gregarious, they must imperatively be kept in a shoal. It is a good swimmer, particularly lively. It happens that the males perform intimidations, but without consequences.

Cohabitation

Cohabitation

Who can live with the White Cloud Mountain minnow?

The White Cloud Mountain minnow is very peaceful and can easily be maintained in a community aquarium (independent, it does not care about the other inhabitants). Be careful, however, to take into account its needs, especially with the temperature.

You can therefore associate it with all peaceful species that like FRESHWATER, like the Danios, Devario and Garra for example.

It should be noted that cohabitation with shrimp is very good since Tanichthys albonubes is not very interested in shrimp, including juvenile shrimp.

Breeding

Breeding

How to breed the White Cloud Mountain minnow?

Breeding of the White Cloud Mountain minnow is rather easy.

It can be done in a group or in a couple. Place in a spawning tank (100 L or 26 Gal) equipped with a grid and tufts of plants, a couple or a group (a few more males than females). Temperature 22°C or 72°F, pH 7, low light and small filter ensuring the oxygenation and movement of water. The laying can last several days and include between 30 and 80 eggs.

The parents do not eat the fry, they can stay in the same tank (however they will eat the eggs, hence the usefulness of the grid at the bottom of the aquarium). If you wish, you can still remove the parents from the breeding aquarium after 2 or 3 days. The incubation of eggs lasts 48 / 60h.

Food for the fry: infusoria, then nauplies of Artemia and Cyclops, specialised fry food.

On average, a temperature of 22°C or 72°F suits the White Cloud Mountain minnow. It should be noted that the temperature must be varied seasonally (if it remains constant, it weakens the fish little by little). It can live in an aquarium without heating.

In general, the White Cloud Mountain minnow appreciates aquariums well planted (preferably with Asian plants) and the dark substrate.

You can also insert roots or branches of driftwood, floating plants and a carpet of dried leaves for a more natural look.

The filtration does not have to be particularly strong even if this little fish likes a light current.

Planning idea: reproduction of a stream, with a slope.
