Who is the Cryptocoryne parva?

Cryptocoryne Parva is one of the smallest species of Cryptocorynes, rarely exceeding 10 centimeters or 4 inches.

It has long oval leaves that do not evolve throughout the life of the plant (neither shape nor colour). The emergent leaves are broad while the leaves developed under the water are rather narrow.

It needs a lot of light to flourish. Indeed, in an immersed situation and without sufficient light source, it may lose its limb completely (wide and flat part of the leaf). You need therefore to offer a light source of power at least equal to 1 watt for 3 liters or 0.8 gallons, or even 1 watt for 1 liter or 0.3 gallons. In addition, the plant should never be hidden from the light by another plant.

A rich soil is essential to allow the roots to draw the necessary nutrients for its development. Cryptocoryne parva does not require a critical contribution in Co2, but if you choose to introduce it, it will always be a plus for its good development. However, do not be surprised, this plant grows very very slowly, even under perfectly controlled conditions. So don’t worry if it seems that it doesn’t grow! You must still see some growth over several months to conclude that it is in good health.

If you plant several feet, space them at least 4 centimeters or 1.5 inches apart to allow each plant to grow well. After a few months, they will form a homogeneous carpet.

Finally, when necessary, cut the leaves that bring too much shade at the foot of the plant.

Farming of this species occurs by division of the rhizome. The portion taken from the substrate should be planted well away from the mother plant so that the roots have space (the small Cryptocoryne develops important roots).
