The Tightly Knotted Duck will quickly form a grove of greenery in your aquarium. Its original and delicate appearance is very decorative.
Due to its large size (it can sometimes be up to 60cm/24" high!), it can only be installed in large, fairly high aquariums (from 150 litres / 33 Imp Gal / 40 US Gal).
This plant seeks to emerge naturally. Thus, when it emerges from the water, it is able to form pretty white flowers.

Visually, it will be prettier to install your Aponogeton in the background of your aquarium as it can get quite high. Therefore, do not put a plant that requires a lot of light under the foot of the Aponogeton as it hides the light in the lower areas. Take this into account when choosing its neighbours!
The maintenance of the Aponogeton is not very difficult but requires some information. Moreover, favourable conditions improve the growth of the plant.
First of all, install this plant species in an aquarium that is already well established and has been running for several weeks or even months. It needs to find nutrients in its environment. Ideal water conditions are fairly soft and slightly acidic water. Plant it in a rich nutritious substrate as it is quite nutrient-demanding. Contrary to many plants, the diffusion of CO2, even if it is a plus, is not obligatory. Finally, the lighting conditions required by this plant range from moderate to strong.

Growing Aponogeton can be very complicated because most plants sold in the trade are sterile. Even when flowering, it may not produce anything and may not be fertile. This makes it difficult to know in advance whether your cultivation project is likely to succeed.
In order to grow your plant, it is already necessary to apply ferrous fertiliser and to grow it in rich soil. Let it out of the water and wait for it to flower. If you have succeeded in getting flowers, you will have to take care of the pollination yourself. Collect the seeds with a small, very soft brush. Put them in a seed propagator (a small tray used to grow plants from seed). It will take several weeks for germination to appear. Be careful, this method will not always work (see previous paragraph).

In its natural environment, the Tense Aponogeton grows in marshes, ponds and lakes that can dry up at certain times of the year. During this dry period, the plant goes into total rest and stops growing. As soon as the rain returns, it resumes its activity and growth. In aquariums, the plants are acclimatized to do without this period. There is a Red or red variety of this species.
