Who is the Ludwigia Repens?
Natural inhabitant of the swamps of Central America, it presents a pleasant coloration: its leaves are olive green above and red underneath. They measure about 3 cm or 1.18 inch and are fairly spaced.
It can live in supplemented, semi-submerged or totally submerged situation. It is therefore suitable for aquariums, but also for ponds and paludariums. Be careful however, its appearance changes completely if it is emerged (it then becomes grassy, hence its name «Creeping primrose-willow»).

Leaves near the surface are redder, while lower ones are often green.
Planting and maintenance
Planting and maintenance
How to plant and maintain the Ludwigia Repens?
For a beautiful effect, plant several feet together to form a bushy group. You can start on a planting density of 3 feet by 10 cm² or 1.55 square inch, with a space between each foot of at least 3 cm or 1.18 inch. With its beautiful height, you will place it in the middle or at the back of your aquarium according to the desired effect.
To flourish, it just needs intense lighting: 1 watt for 2 liters or 0.4 Imp Gal or 0.5 US Gal of water. Apart from that, the addition of fertilisers and the diffusion of CO2 are not essential. The quality and quantity of light that you propose to it will influence its colour. The brighter and more intense the lighting, the more flamboyant red your plant will be. A rather cold water (20°C or 68°F) will also favour this colour.
Do not hesitate to regularly remove what is in excess (clear). Also prune the side shoots: this will promote bush growth and provide access to light from leaves closer to the foot. Indeed, these leaves tend to fall and the foot is lost in case of lack of light.

Nothing easier! Cut the larger side shoots (at least 15 cm or 5.9 inch at least) and replant them.
